Kramer Vs Kramer

It is incredible the way events have evolved since the first day of this unilateral assault. I call it unilateral not because Israelis do not have victims (of course they have) but because there is not any kind resistance from the official authorities of Lebanor or Lebanese people. I can not resist to quote a comment from the BBC News website that i read a few days ago which reckons that the answer of Israel to the kidnapping of its soldiers was to kidnapp a whole nation. Simultaneously, other accuse Hezbollah of craveness because they use to hide themselves in areas where civilians are living.

Both these comments seem to me too provocative regarding both sides and prove why people from western countries do not have something smart to say. Firstly, i can imagine how the public opinion would react in any "civilized" European country in the case two of their soldiers had been kidnapped. Nationalism is a very sensitive issue in many areas and i admit that the level of political tension would be very high even in Greece, like so many times in the recent past in small or medium scale conflicts with Turkey. Likewise, when you are under attack you are trying to survive and we can only blame Israel for killing civilians... If they are not able to eliminate Hezbollah otherwise then they not should start bombing....

Of c0urse, my simplistic analysis does not provide any new evidence but i think it is time to face the truth. After more than 1000 years of conflict between Islamic and Christian nations, paths of long-term peace have to be discovered. It sounds romantic or even naive but we are very close to the edge. I have some thoughts regarding the fields where mutual compromises have to take place but i still develop my ideas. I will return soon but i would appreciate any preliminary thoughts by you... The last thing we are looking for are cheap bargain deals that will not bring any sincere efforts. Both sides need to respond to various challengess but in the end of the day i believe that the problem is not around different religious perspectives
